HungryMan Gallery presents, Western, the interdisciplinary works of Chicago artist Jim Zimpel. The sculptures and new media work reference the remnants and romanticism of American frontier culture through fiction ranging from Hollywood movies to folklore. These are the products of assumptions and a mass media based understanding of the world. They function in the blurred realm of the seemingly authentic, the regulated imaginary, and the mundane grandiose.

Jim Zimpel, originally from St Paul, MN, currently lives and works in Chicago, IL. He received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute and UIC in 2008. Currently, Jim is trying to make a decision about a grad school either in Chicago or New York. He is a part time faculty at Columbia College.
