HungryMan Gallery presents, Ocean, the photographic work of Aaron Fowler curated by Jason Lazarus.

Aaron Louis Fowler's photography lurks quietly in the mass of young contemporary photography. There is an efficient economy of meaning in his work. A conch shell, a cell phone, a bedspread that reads like an ocean. Curled up inside a sweater, a cable release, an audience of two plants. A young man's back pressed up against glass. Like many young photographers who grew up with the internet (he was born in 1989), he is self conscious about the styles and modalities of photographic strategy, and deftly maneuvers among them. Fowler transcends a mere war with the obvious-- he's at war with complacency, with distance, and with the photographic frame itself. There is an opening in the armor of youth in his photographs-- there's great reciprocity in his images. He will immolate himself for the viewer--great fodder for color photography look at the blood on his back).
